Bellevue should let Seattle Humane Society help

I think the article on the subject “Time to take care of animals at shelter” is important because it points out the problems that we face in properly caring for our homeless animals.

I strongly agree with the Editor’s opinion, as written in Saturday’s Bellevue Reporter (p8, 10/18/08) that we need to make a plan and take advantage, if possible of the expertise of the Seattle Humane Society.

I used to be a volunteer at the Bellevue Animal Shelter and also adopted a very wonderful dog from there. I think that staff and volunteers deserve appreciation and credit for doing a good job in difficult environment and a small building, but often there isn’t enough space for the animals, especially cats. Too many of the animals are not adopted and have to be euthanized.

I would like to support Dow Constantine’s idea about using the Humane Society. In the article he said “This is a moral issue that we are responsible for the animals and we need to succeed for the animals.”

Things need to be improved and if the Humane Society could do a better job with the same funding or help increase funding then we should consider giving them the chance to succeed. I hope the idea will be considered soon to see if it is feasible and if it actually could improve things for the homeless animals.
