In Bellevue, we currently have at-large voting for the City Council. All of us cast our ballots for all candidates in the jurisdiction.
It is time to move away from at-large voting to voting by district in our city.
We need to shift accountability and responsibility to the district level, and balance the needs of our neighborhoods with the needs of the city at large.
Smaller districts will make it easier for candidates from our neighborhoods to get visibility, and will make campaigns more affordable (i.e. shift power away from big money donors). Moving away from at-large voting to district voting will decrease partisan funding and campaigns, enabling non-partisan behavior.
