I read with interest the letter from andy Held concerning clean energy. It should be no surprise that he likes the American Clean Energy and Security Act so much. Since he is in the business of selling “clean energy” to people, the support of the federal government in forcing this sham on you would allow him to sell more of his product.
Most of these systems are very expensive to purchase and currently do not have a good return for the money spent. The energy produced costs as much as a third more than that provided from the major utilities – and you still need backup from conventional oil/coal power plants when the wind force is either too strong or too weak, or if using solar for when the sun doesn’t shine for several days.
I am sure that there are those who will point out that this will reduce the CO2 emissions, which many people have been led to believe causes global warming. The ones that advocate this premise point to the fact that since about 1999 the average temperatures have been increasing. But the inconvenient fact is that for the past few years there has been a cooling trend.
Also, if CO2 is the cause of the warming, then why did the average temperature drop .4 degrees in 1992. Was there was no CO2 being produced for just that one year?
In contrast, the temperature rose .8 of a degree in 1998 and then dropped down to no change in 1999. Was there some huge production of CO2 for just that one year?
Any fool should be able to see that there is little relation between the temperature and the level of CO2. Information on the temperatures has been taken from data collected by the University of Alabama from a global satellite.
These programs already have been tried in Europe and have been successful. This law will mostly be a way for the government to collect more taxes from the public and curry favor with the far left environmental groups.
I don’t want this law passed. I don’t have a business reason, as Mr. Held does, but just want for the government to stop trying to control every aspect of our lives.
