Enforce gun laws but don’t restrict owners | Letter

I dare you to print the truth. Background checks are touted to be the answer to end the gun violence. I am in favor of the procedure.

Well, here is a fact that your readers are not aware of and I wasn’t either until a few days ago. Many of the killers that we read about who have committed atrocities would have passed a background check and been able to buy a gun. Why? Because our government agencies do not put the names of criminals into the database to be checked.

Unbelievable as it may seem that is a fact. Whether it is intentional or neglect this is the loophole that needs to be addressed pronto. This fact has been made public through the NRA. Watch the YouTube video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JLTMkg1RLW0. It’s only about five minutes and it names the recent shooters who would have passed a background check and puts the failure on the government.

The mainstream media has given the false impression that anybody can buy a gun at a gun show. I sometimes attend the gun show in Monroe and to buy a gun there you have to be a member of Washington Arms and pass a background check before being issued a membership card.

You have to have said card to purchase a firearm. It has been that way for years. I lived in Kennesaw, Georgia where the City Council passed an ordinance that every homeowner had to have a firearm. Guess what city in Georgia had the lowest crime rate?

Bottom line is we need to enforce the gun laws we have on the books and not put more restrictions on gun owners. And the government needs to clean up its act and make the background check records accurate.
