We need to remember that the contested Position 1 race for Bellevue School Board is between incumbent Betsy Johnson and challenger Steve McConnell. The race is not between Steve McConnell and the teachers’ union (Bellevue Education Association) against Superintendent Dr. Cudeiro.

While communications and cooperation do need to improve between school district administration and personnel, the paramount issue is the best interest of our children.

Betsy Johnson’s understanding of and active involvement in legislative affairs at both the state and federal level are a key piece of operating our school district, to both advocate for policies that not only affect our kids but also impact our school district operations financially and through government policy. Her knowledge is especially key as we continue to face further budget cuts that will impact education.

McConnell had publicly and repeatedly stated that he feels this is not an important component of of school district/school board operations. When questioned on legislative issues, he has also demonstrated his overall lack of knowledge. He is not the the right person for the job. Please vote for Betsy Johnson.
