I read your article about our Sacred Heart School’s expansion with great interest. As the pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, I have been intimately involved with the process of the Capital Campaign from the beginning.
It has been an outstanding process which, along with creating new buildings, has also helped to build community between the school and the parish.
This project would not have been possible without the generous support and leadership of our parishioners, school families and staff. I am very grateful to them all.
I would be remiss, however, if I did not take the opportunity to correct the record a bit. The last major renovation of the school actually took place in 1994, not 1969. The Capital Campaign in 1994 was led by Dan and Julie Coleman.
Rev. Marlin Connole was the pastor. The campaign’s goal was to create a central place for educational technology throughout Sacred Heart School and to update the facility.
Computer “pods” were added to the buildings, creating a computer lab for each grade, kindergarten through fifth, with laptops being introduced for grades 6-8. The 4th and 8th grade wings of the school were extended, including five new classrooms and a new restroom, and a music room was added next to the Moore Theater.
I look forward to the great new additions to our school which will be completed in time for the 2010-2011 school year, and am thankful to all of the men and women whose sacrifices and vision over the years have made possible all of the great blessings we have at Sacred Heart Parish and School.
