When my family moved here in 1972, my father chose to live here because of the Bellevue School District’s outstanding reputation. I moved back to Bellevue after graduate school, because of the school district.

On Feb. 11, two levies and one bond will be voted upon for the Bellevue School District. Some of the things these measures will do include: building better and safer schools, funding large scale maintenance projects, and creating enough classrooms so that class sizes can be optimal for learning.

Also, they would finish building or remodeling the remaining schools in the district that need upgrades. Interestingly, there are many more kids living in the growing downtown area than was projected. The district is trying to figure out the best way to educate those kids. Included in these measures on the ballot are building two new schools — as our district is still growing.

Other pieces of the measures include the ability to maintain and offer a broad range of course offerings in middle schools and high schools, helping Bellevue students be more advanced in technology, and keeping the technology infrastructure up to date for all students.
