The Bellevue Downtown Livability Advisory Committee voted on June 18 to recommend increasing building heights in nearly the entire downtown Bellevue district. The excuse is improved aesthetics and amenities.

There was no evidence the current plan isn’t working. Development in Bellevue is booming, so why change? These undefined benefits come at a heavy price. Most people don’t make those kind of deals unless they are receiving the benefit and aren’t paying the price.

The quality of life will suffer for the undesired changes. The resident’s wish list was ignored, while developers and realtors get richer. Shouldn’t livability describe the needs of the people?

Our biggest impacts on livability are infrastructure and government. The proposed changes will increase congestion, do nothing about parking, and impinge on neighborhoods.

Laws are a protection for the people by the government. After creating my home and developing a community, the Livability Committee wants to change the rules and threaten my quality of life. That’s not fair. The residents of downtown Bellevue are asking why? We already have a plan, and it’s better than the new plan. Stick to the plan.
