The Bellevue teachers strike proves that my wife’s and my decision to remove our two sons from Bellevue public schools this year was the right one. We have supported Bellevue schools in the past, but recent front-page report indicates our concerns were warranted.

Even with Bellevue citizens approving over one half billion dollars in new property taxes for schools last year, and teachers set to receive a pay increase of 6.1 percent in this turbulent economic climate, the teachers voted for an illegal strike and disrupted the lives of thousands of families on what was supposed to be the first day of school.

Bellevue’s parents, school children and taxpayers deserve better. I hope the teachers’ union quickly reorganizes its priorities and puts Bellevue public school children first.
