Call me old fashion, but I do believe in the holiday between Halloween and Christmas. We refer to it as Thanksgiving.
Shopping the end of October for a few Halloween greeting cards I discovered the music playing was a rendition of Jingle Bells, No, can’t be, not yet.
My family and I still enjoy the tradition of sitting together, enjoying the usual stuffing and cranberries in the same dishes my grandmother used. No one jumps up to go shopping at midnight, afraid they will miss the biggest sale of the year.
We still tell the same stories about brother Marc at two years old, finding all the wrapped gifts hidden in the closet and excited he had unwrapped every one of them. Or the time Christopher dislocated his shoulder doing an Evel Knievel over trash cans on his skate board. We laugh every time.
If no one rushed out to these greedy retailers maybe the employee’s would be able to enjoy their holiday as well. I would not trade my family time or values for whatever Mega-sale is offered. I am sure there will be plenty of merchandise left on the shelves the day after.
