Bellevue Chamber Chorus and Northwest Chamber Chorus to present ‘In Tribute’ concerts

The Bellevue Chamber Chorus and the Northwest Chamber Chorus will present Herbert Howells’s Requiem in a program of tribute and remembrance, and other great double-choir works by Schumann and Rutter.

The Bellevue Chamber Chorus and the Northwest Chamber Chorus will present Herbert Howells’s Requiem in a program of tribute and remembrance, and other great double-choir works by Schumann and Rutter. 

The choruses also will perform separately with songs by Barber, Brahms, Gorecki, Tchaikovsky, and traditional spirituals.

These are the first co-produced/performed concerts in the Seattle region by the two chamber choruses.

Performances will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12 at the Theatre at Meydenbauer, 11100 NE Sixth St., Bellevue and at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 13 at Plymouth Congregational Church, 1217 6th Ave, Seattle.

Double chorus works included in the program are An Die Sterne and Talismane by Robert Schumann, in honor of his 200th anniversary year; John Rutter’s Hymn to the Creator of Light, written as a tribute to composer Herbert Howells; and Howells’ deeply personal Requiem, composed in 1936 as he grieved the loss of his young son.

Totus Tuus by Henryk Górecki (Written by Polish composer in honor of Pope John Paul II’s first papal visit to Warsaw)

Soon Ah Will be Done Wi’ de Troubles of Dis Worl’, African American Spiritual arr. by Diane Loomer (in honor of Loomer’s father).

Bellevue Chamber Chorus is directed by Fredrick Lokken. Northwest Chamber Chorus is directed by Mark Kloepper.
