Do not miss out on the opportunity to have a great time after your New Year’s parties are over. Spend the night of Jan. 16 enjoying great Jewish music, food and the chance to help improve the lives of Eastern European immigrants.

The guests will be able to participate in a lottery featuring products and services from local businesses, and listen to the trio, Marianna, a group of prominent musicians, who will perform traditional and contemporary music sung in Hebrew, Yiddish and Ladino, English, Russian, Italian and Spanish.

“Their music is just so much fun,” organizer Anna Cherkasov said. “All of these old tunes suddenly sound so new and modern. It makes you want to dance and sing along.”

This event is a fundraiser for Eastern European Counseling Center, a nonprofit organization that provides culturally competent multi-language health and human services to low-income, uninsured Eastern European immigrants and refugees in Washington. The center helps people find their emotional and, psychological balance, in addition to providing legal, medical, educational and employment resources, said Lana Polinger, co-founder.

“Some recent immigrants experience severe adjustment difficulties in their new life in the United States,” Polinger said. “Lack of support system, cultural and language barriers often cause stress, anxiety, and depression. Domestic violence is also a serious problem in the community.”

All are invited to attend the event, which will take place at the Russian Cultural Center, 2011 152nd Ave NE, Redmond.
