Omega Photo is showcasing a photo exhibition of western horse photography by nature and travel photographer, Darrell Gulin through July 31.
“What I love in creating the imagery with the horses is the strength, power, and the speed in open country,” Gulin said. “I chose late summer, early fall for that shoot because of quality of the light and how it interplays with the dust.”
Gulin is a speaker and member of Canon’s Explorer’s of Light program. He has been featured on five of the Canon Photo Safari’s televised on ESPN.
Born and raised in Seattle, he graduated from the University of Washington with a business degree. His purchasing manager at a local wine and beer distributor knew he had an artistic bent and taught him to use a camera. Two years later he was being published in national magazines.
Gulin’s photographs have been published in Outdoor Photographer, Outdoor & Nature, Newsweek, National Geographic, Audubon Magazine, Wilderness, National Wildlife, Birder’s World, Sunset, Nature Conservancy, Popular Photography, and Nature’s Best, among others. He has led photographic trips for Popular Photography and Joseph van Os Photo Safaris. He has been the past president of the North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA) and has been earning a living as a full time nature photographer for over 19 years.
Omega Photo is located at 1100 Bellevue Way NE. The store is open from 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
