Eastside Symphony will present the winner of the Eastside’s Young Soloists audition, violinist Alice Leung, in a performance of Lalo’s romantic Symphonie Espagnole at 7 p.m. June 19 in the Redmond Performing Arts Center.

The performance is part of the symphony’s Fanfares and Fantasies program.

Leung, 16, has been studying violin for eight years. She is a student at the University of Washington through acceptance at the UW Academy Honors Program, allowing her to skip the junior and senior year at Newport High School and directly attend the university.

The summer of 2007, she made a violin recording for the soundtrack of a documentary about World War II called “Ladies Who Lunch.” Two years ago, she won the awards for Most Outstanding Freshman Girl and Most Inspirational within her high school orchestra at Newport High, and the following year she won the Most Outstanding Sophomore Girl Award. In February, 2009, she was chosen by audition to be concertmistress of the WMEA All-State Orchestra.

Also on the program is Prokofiev’s famous musical story, Peter and the Wolf, with narrator Peter King. Peter attended Washington State University, and has been previously seen onstage at Carco Theater in The Rainmaker playing Starbuck.
