Lautner captivates in ‘Abduction’ | Movie Review | Aran Kirschenmann

“Abduction” is the newest action drama stirring up interest in Hollywood. “Abduction” is the newest action drama stirring up interest in Hollywood. Most of the hype is undoubtedly because of the film’s star, Taylor Lautner, who is best known for playing the leading role of Jacob in the popular “Twilight” saga. That film earned him plenty of attention, and even made him a teenage heartthrob.

It was easy to see from the theater audience that he was the reason many of the viewers came to watch his latest work. Lautner is rumored to become the next big action star, and in “Abduction” he makes his debut by starring as the hero, Nathan.

In the film, Nathan starts out as simply a normal high schooler with trivial crushes and strict yet loving parents. That all changes when Nathan suddenly finds a missing persons website that causes him to question his identity and eventually throws his life into pure chaos.

Before he knows what is happening, Nathan is on the run with his love interest, Karen, and without a clue about what’s going on and who to trust. He is forced, for the first time in his life, to use the unique skills that he had been taught throughout his childhood to save his and Karen’s lives.

There were many other big actors pitching in with the production of “Abduction” besides Lautner. Some of them include Sigourney Weaver as Nathan’s psychiatrist, Swedish-born Michael Nyqvist as an evil Russian agent, Jason Isaacs as Nathan’s so-called father, and many more. The one actress that unfortunately didn’t impress me was Lilly Collins, playing the love interest, Karen. She lacked energy and chemistry throughout “Abduction,” and didn’t add very much to the film.

The highlight of “Abduction” are the action scenes. Lautner did most of his own stunts, the best ones including his multiple hand-to-hand combat scenes. “Abduction” was action packed and filled with fun and excitement.

While the film had plenty of dangerous skirmishes, it didn’t have enough high drama in the plot that should have kept it intense and suspenseful no matter what was happening.

If you are a Lautner fan, you will undoubtedly be a fan of seeing him center stage and in full action in Abduction.
