Nordstrom preview fashion show helps SAM | Rose Dennis | In Good Company

More than $150,000 was raised at the 26th Annual Nordstrom 2011 Designer Preview Fashion Show benefiting The Seattle Art Museum. Proceeds will provide support for this winter’s Gauguin and Polynesia: An Elusive Paradise. SAM is the only U.S. venue for this exhibition that will highlight the complex relationship between Paul Gauguin’s work and the culture and art of Polynesia.

Nordstrom buyers did a great job editing the designer fall collections that they viewed in New York, Paris and Milan this past January and February. Seen walking down the runway were designs created by Lanvin; Dolce&Gabbanna; Burberry Prorsum; Michael Kors; Marc Jacobs; Missoni; Akris; Dries Van Noten; Celine; Givenchy; Marni; Nina Ricci; Gucci; Oscar de la Renta; and CHANEL.

Many ladies visited the boutiques after the show and began purchasing their new fall wardrobe “must have” pieces.

Some looks to consider adding to your wardrobe include a short or knee-length cape; signature tweed coat; leather anything; black cropped, full and skinny pants; a slim knee-length skirt paired with a soft silk blouse; and, for evening, a form-fitting dress in crepe jersey.

There was a wide variety of color shown on the runway for the fall 2011: beige, gold, navy, magenta, grey, teal, burgundy, forest green, maroon, and — my favorite – basic black. Fabric textures included cashmere, lots of tweeds, leather, wool, knits, velvet, crepe, and chiffon. And, of course, all of shoes and handbags were beautiful. Have fun shopping!

In 1971, Gene Juarez opened his first hair salon with the goal of building a community of hair designers who were devoted to the art of hairdressing. Last month Gene Juarez Salons & Spas celebrated 40 years of bringing beauty, fashion and trends to the Pacific Northwest by holding a fashion show and anniversary party at EMP in Seattle. The fashion show featured the work of their own artists and showcased the looks and styles from all four decades Gene Juarez has served our region.

Today, Gene Juarez Salons & Spas employs 450 artists along with an extremely talented and visionary executive team, which predicts the hair and beauty trends for each season, and shares this vision with all of the salon artists.

CEO Janet Denyer shared her observations on the next 40 years:

“As we look to the future, Gene Juarez Salons will always place helping our guests to feel beautiful, special and happy as our top priority. We see ourselves growing our salon division (with their new Indenity hair-product line) and education division outside of the Puget Sound Region, and in so doing, we see ourselves joining new communities.”
