The Radio Enthusiasts of Puget Sound will present their 21st annual showcase June 21-23 at the Coast Bellevue Hotel. The convention, which celebrates the storytelling of the “Golden Age of Radio,” is expected to bring a number of classic radio performers and radio enthusiasts to the Eastside.
Last year’s showcase featured performances by Gloria McMillan, Bob Hastings (“McHale’s Navy”), Frank Ferrante (as Groucho), and Bob Hudson (“Little Orphan Annie”). This year’s will feature Stan Freberg and his wife Hunter Freberg.
One of the most beloved humorists and satirists, Freberg’s recording work began in the early 50s, with voice work on “John and Marsha,” “Sh-boom,” “The Great Pretender” and Rock Island Live.”
Freberg also helped create the Emmy-Award winning TV show “Time for Beany” and helped found the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS).
In addition to a handful of returning voice actors, this year’s showcase will also feature performances by Jim French (“Imagination Theatre”), Stuffy Singer (“Jack Benny Show”) and Ivan Cury.
As is tradition, the showcase will feature special meals with performers and a book signing with Stan Freberg and Martin Grams for registered guests. The Showcase Store, located in the Evergreen Room, will feature merchandise related to the Golden Age of Radio, and will be open to the public all weekend.
