The Bellevue gaming community will have a new reason to leave the house and hit the movie theater. Sony Corp. announced the unveiling of a new game title for its Playstation3 game console at four movie theaters across the country, including Lincoln Square Cinemas in Bellevue.
On Oct. 6, Lincoln Square Cinemas will give gamers a chance to try their hand at PlayStation’s new action game, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. The game will come alive on one of the theater’s full-size movie screens equipped with Sony’s 4K digital-projector technology. According to Sony, the technology allows for a better image resolution than traditional projectors.
The event is open to the public and tickets are available on the theater’s Website, for $15 a seat. A private invitation-only event will be held the night before on Oct. 5.
“We have a great relationship with Sony [Electronics’ Digital Cinema Solutions] since we converted to a digital format,” said Sean O’Leary, the director of sales and marketing for Lincoln Square Cinemas. “Sony’s unveiling a new movement in the gaming community and we’re excited to be along for the ride.”
The sneak peak of the highly anticipated new game by Sony will be displayed across a full-size movie screen for the theater audience. Two teams of five will compete in a tournament setting. Each player will have their own Sony PlayStation Portable device to battle it out while the large movie screen will rotate between the different players’ viewpoints.
“People always ask us who our main competitor is and I always tell them it’s not the theater up the street. Our true competitor is good weather and at-home entertainment,” O’Leary explained. “We hope by adding gaming into the theater experience, we will draw a new demographic. This is uncharted territory for the gaming world and for theaters and we are thrilled to be a part it.”
