“It’s a Wonderful Life – The Radio Show” will recreate the mood of a 1940’s style radio show in a performance Nov 29 to Dec. 1 at Newport Covenant Church in Bellevue.

The radio-show recreation shows how actors crowd the microphones to speak their parts, and then make way for the next to speak. Foley artists produce sound effects that help transport people to the world of the small town of Bedford Falls. Based on the film by Frank Capra, the Christmas tale is about George Bailey, a man who feels life his life has amounted to nothing until an angel helps him see that he truly has lived a wonderful life.

The multigenerational cast is drawn from the Eastside community and is led by Jim Brenden as George Bailey, Erika Francoeur as George’s wife Mary, Scott Lee as Clarence the angel, and Chuck Royalty as the villainous Mr. Potter.

“We’re excited to bring the radio show concept to life on stage,” said Directors Vicki Walch and Tom Frodsham. “Watching our Foley artists at work will entertain audience members of all ages.”

The performance is part of the Newport Season of the Arts, a creative arts ministry program that offers a 10-month season that encompasses a program including of theatrical works, new music, jazz, classical music, musical theater, children’s theater, and more.

The church has been producing high-quality theatrical productions since 2000.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 3 p.m. Sunday. The production is appropriate for the entire family. The performance is offered at no charge and there will be festival seating.
