In the spirit of Halloween, the Bellevue Youth Theater is putting on on their original production “Dracula” from Nov. 5-7.

Taking a youthful spin on the traditional myth, the BYT’s Dracula is the story of Dracula as a new student at a generic high school.

The play is about “how he deals with being the outsider and how the whole school deals with accepting someone who’s new and different,” said the production’s director, Norm Dalire.

The world is “split into two groups. There are the new, twilight-esque vampires, while Dracula is one of the vampires of legend,” said Dalire.

The production represents Bellevue Youth Theater work, through and through. The play was written by the theater’s Angela McInnis, and the theater controlled all the intermediary processes, from auditioning to costuming.

Sticking to the theater’s commitment to providing students opportunities in theater, the production is completely staffed by youth. Not only are all the actors and actresses students, but the crew is as well – “the costume designer..the light designer just graduated from high school…the production stage manager…the soundboard operator…the stage manager are still in high school,” said Dalire.

Dracula is showing at 7 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Admission is $10, and performances will be at the Bellevue Youth Theater, 16661 Northup Way.
