Very late night or early morning drivers should expect full closures on westbound SR 520 in Bellevue and eastbound SR 520 in Redmond this week.

For the next three nights WSDOT crews will close westbound SR 520 in Bellevue to install three overhead sign bridges. These sign bridges will hold high-tech electronic signs that will be activated next summer as part of the new smarter highways system.

Drivers can expect the following closures and detours starting tonight:

1 – 3 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8: Crews will close westbound SR 520 just west of the I-405 interchange:

Detour: Westbound SR 520 traffic will exit to southbound I-405, exit at NE 8th, return to northbound I-405 and exit to westbound SR 520

1 – 3 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 9: Crews will close westbound SR 520 between 148th Avenue NE and I-405. There will be no access to I-405 from westbound SR 520.

Detour: Westbound SR 520 traffic will exit at 148th Avenue NE and travel south; turn west on 20th Avenue to 108th Avenue NE where they can enter east or westbound SR 520. Drivers headed to I-405 will go east on 520 to reach north or south on I-405. This detour is the only way to access I-405 on this night.

1 – 3 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 10: Crews will close westbound SR 520 between 148th and 124th

Detour: Westbound SR 520 traffic will exit at 148th Avenue NE and travel south; turn west on 20th Avenue, north on 124th to return to westbound SR 520.

Eastbound SR 520 nightly closures will continue in Redmond as crews working for the city of Redmond will place 56 bridge girders for a new overpass. Drivers should be prepared for delays and detours if they are in the area between 11:30 p.m. and 5 a.m.
