Bellevue police and SWAT responded to the 11500 block of Northup Way at around 1 p.m. on Friday afternoon following a report that a dog had been shot.

An employee of Mattress Depot called Police after he let his dog off a leash in the wooded area behind the Bellevue business. The man heard a loud pop, what he thought was a gun shot, and called the police. He reported that his dog had yelped and was bleeding from the neck.

Police locked down the area for nearly 30 minutes while searching for a suspect.

Members of the SWAT team discovered a piece of a steel rod with dog hair on it and confirmed it had caused the injury to the dog.

“We approached the scene as if the report was accurate and shut down the surrounding neighborhood,” said Police spokeswoman Carla Iafrate. “It was later confirmed there was no gunshot.”

The dog was rushed to Arrow Wood Animal Hospital for treatment.
