Bellevue and Kirkland firefighters responded to an attic fire in northwest Bellevue and were able to limit the fire damage to one condominium unit. Damages were estimated at around $300,000 total. One condo unit had significant fire damage and two lower units had water damage.
The fire occurred on Jan. 26 around 10 a.m. at the Yarrowood Highlands in the 11300 block of Northeast 36th Street. There were no injuries to report and no one was in the dwelling at the time of the fire.
Bellevue Fire investigators say the fire appeared to originate from an attic space used for storage. The owner of the condo reported that he sometimes heard squirrels in his attic, but investigators report that direct evidence pointing to an animal as a cause would have likely been destroyed by the fire.
