Bellevue Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa international honor society, and chapter member Jessica Buskirk, of Bellevue, earned top awards at the society’s regional conference, held March 7-9 on the Clark College campus in Vancouver, Wash.
Buskirk won the Literary Achievement Award for her poem, “Untitled.” The BCC chapter as a whole won the Leadership Hallmark Award, which recognizes superior academic programs, and also was named a Five-Star Chapter, officially placing it among region’s best.
BCC’s chapter also was named second runner-up for the Distinguished Chapter Award, and its “Project Ecotronics,” through which students are collecting used electronic items for safe recycling, was named runner-up for the Regional Service Project Award.
Officers in BCC’s Phi Theta Kappa chapter this year include Nazila Dabestani, of Bellevue, president and Jessica Buskirk, Bellevue, communications officer.
