The Seattle Section of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) will be celebrating 10 years of its Furnishing Peaceful Homes: Shalom Bayit program, at a fundraising brunch Sunday in Bellevue.
The organization sponsors the only furniture warehouse and give-away program in the state dedicated to victims of domestic violence. NCJW will also honor the program’s founder, Jennifer Cohen, with a lifetime achievement award.
The Open Your Hearts brunch will be from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Bellevue Hilton, 300 112th Ave. SE.
Tickets are $60 and can be purchased at www.ncjwseattle.org.
Furnishing Peaceful Homes acquires donations of gently used furniture and household items and distributes them without charge to women and families transitioning from violent homes or temporary shelters to permanent housing.
Started 10 years as a result of a community needs assessment, the warehouse provides household furnishings to those in need and has helped families to reestablish their lives after leaving a violent home. Since 2001, the Furnishing Peaceful Homes program has received over 9,800 pieces of quality used furniture and helped over 600 families settle into new homes.
