The city of Bellevue will pay tribute to the life of Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925), who’s revered by many people as the founding father of the democratic Republic of China (Taiwan) which will celebrate its centennial next year.

From Jan. 8-11, a 60-piece photo exhibition, called “Retracing Our Steps” and a series of lectures will be presented at Bellevue City Hall.

From 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Jan. 8, an expected crowd of 250 people with local state and Taiwan dignitaries will attend the opening ceremonies at Bellevue City Hall, featuring the International Lion Dance group, Martial Arts Team, Huayin Performing Arts Group, Chinese Art and Music Association and a ribbon cutting.

“I think the city of Bellevue is very multicultural and diversified, not only with Chinese, but Korean people and Japanese people,” said Jeffrey Pai, who helped to organize the event. “This is a very educational event to go to and see the pictures, every picture has a story behind it, not only for Asian students, but for any child.”

Pai also pointed out that one of Bellevue’s sister cities is Hualien County in Taiwan, which has promoted cultural exchange.

The exhibition is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Bellevue City Hall is located at 450 110th Ave. NE.
