The Bellevue City Council is considering new regulations aimed at limiting the impacts of building “megahomes” in existing neighborhoods.

An open house on the topic will take place May 7 from 5-7 p.m. at City Hall.

The city’s planning commission will also hold a public hearing on the matter May 13, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.

City Council tackled the “megahomes” issue in 2007, adopting regulatory and procedural changes that addressed concerns about tree retention, loss of sunlight and privacy, and disruptions from construction activity.

The next round of changes under consideration include:

• Increased tree retention

• Revising the noise construction hours

• Reducing the lifespan of building permits

• Establishing setback requirements for mechanical equipment

• Regulations that would control the size and scale of new homes and remodels.
