Bellevue gun stores review security after armory theft | Burglars still on loose

As police search for the suspects who drove their car into the West Coast Armory in Bellevue last weekend and stole an undisclosed number of weapons, other gun stores are reviewing their security measures.

Just after midnight on April 16, the Bellevue Fire Department responded to a fire alarm triggered when a vehicle crashed into the West Coast Armory on 32nd Street.

Police determined that a unknown person or persons used the vehicle as a battering ram, crashing through the business’ front door and then stealing an undisclosed amount of firearms.

They then abandoned the car and had fled the scene by time law enforcement arrived. The suspect(s) are still on the loose.

With the case unresolved, other Bellevue gun retailers say they have reviewed security procedures, but are confident in their policies.

“It’s always jarring to hear about something like that happening close to home,” said Eric Montgomery of Wade’s Eastside Guns on Bel-Red Road. “But, you’ve always got to be prepared.”

Wade’s Eastside Guns takes security very seriously, Montgomery added. The retail store and gun range are protected by 40 inch concrete planter boxes and pillars, while all of their weapons inside the retail store are secured.

Following Saturday’s grab-and-run, Low Price Guns on Northeast 20th Street reviewed video of the incident in relation to their floor layout and current security, and say they are confident in their existing policies and safety measures.

“We believe in being proactive and preventing incidents such as these, but have reviewed our incident response policies with all of our employees as well,” said Jeannie Harmon.

The Bellevue Police are still searching for the suspect(s).
