A goal post at Bellevue High School was set on fire at 1:08 a.m. Wednesday, June 17.
Witnesses reported seeing two teenage males wearing shorts and one with a dark knit hat running from the scene shortly after the blaze was set.
The Bellevue Fire Department extinguished the blaze and determined this was a criminal arson investigation at which time the Bellevue Police Department was called to the scene.
Initial investigation revealed the football tackling “dummies” were torn from the tackling equipment and leaned against the goal post and set on fire using a propane tank. A large, what appears to be the letter “L” was burned in the center of the football field.
The field, equipment and goal post were severely damaged. There is no damage estimate at this time. No injuries were reported to any fire fighters, police or citizens.
Arson Alarm posters have been placed at the scene advising a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
