Regional police and fire departments will practice coordinating their response procedures during a multiple casualty exercise at Bellevue High School on Saturday and Sunday.

Bellevue’s Fire and Police departments, Seattle’s Fire and Police departments along with law enforcement officers and firefighters from King, Snohomish, and Pierce counties will participate in the two-day exercise.

The weekend exercise will demonstrate the ability of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) regional partner organizations to work together. The intent of the exercise is to test the King County Multi Casualty Incident (MCI) plans in addition to exercising the capabilities of multiple city and county bomb squads, and Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) teams.

The participating partners will emphasize personnel and civilian safety.

The Bellevue School District has been involved in the planning as well as Cornerstone Construction, the principle contractor for the new Bellevue High School. Students from the Bellevue School District will participate in the exercise.

On Saturday and Sunday, residents living and driving near Bellevue High School will notice a large amount of Emergency Vehicles and additional police and fire activity.

Questions about the weekend exercise should be directed to Lt. Troy Donlin, Bellevue Fire Department Community Liaison Officer at 425-452-6995 or tdonlin@bellevuewa.gov.
