The city of Bellevue is coming together to fight hunger on the Eastside. The mayor of Bellevue and members of the city council will kickoff a noon to 4 p.m. event Sunday, September 13 which will feature food and family plus entertainment, vendors and inflatables for the kids.
There also will be a performance by American Idol semifinalist Felicia Barton of Virginia Beach, VA.
he event is at Bellevue Foursquare Church. 2015 Richards Rd SE, Bellevue.
Even football fans can participate, as the first Seahawks’ game of the season will be shown on two big screen televisions in a dedicated tent. The event is sponsored by World Impact Network and Bellevue Foursquare Church, partnering together with the city of Bellevue to gather food for the Renewal Food Bank.
The initiative falls under the umbrella of the Neighbor Link program, which was designed to generate resources for local families suffering from the recession and to strengthen the sense of community among neighbors. During the last two weeks of August, volunteers handed out donation bags to over 900 homes in the Woodridge neighborhood of Bellevue, which were then collected during the last week of August. The food will be distributed to the needy through the Renewal Food Bank.
The Renewal Food Bank is open on Mondays and Wednesdays to anyone in need of food, regardless of income or status. There is a high priority placed on dignity and respect in the operation of the food bank, and no person is required to show proof of financial income in order to access food.
People are given the opportunity to choose specific foods from categorized sections, rather than getting whatever is handed to them.
Whole Foods is donating $3,000 worth of food for the September 13 event, including organic produce. The city of Bellevue and Sambica Camp, as well as Foursquare International, are donating supplies.
Parking for the festival will be available in a variety of well-marked locations in the area and a shuttle available to and from the event.
Felicia Barton is well known as the American Idol contestant who got a second chance. After being sent home by the judges after a sing-off, Felicia got a call from the producers of American Idol, telling her to pack her bags and come back to the Top 36. Another contestant had been disqualified.
Felicia didn’t make the final cut, but used her time in the semifinals to win fans across the nation.
