Washington State Patrol arrested a 24-year-old Bellevue man last week after he crashed his car while drunk, injuring a passenger and then fleeing the scene.
The man was located by police after he called 911 following the crash to report the vehicle stolen, according to a WSP press release.
“He crashed; he left on foot,” said WSP Trooper Julie Startup. “It looks as though he went directly home after that and reported the car stolen.”
The crash occurred at 11:30 p.m. on Feb. 25, when the man drove his silver Volkswagen GTI into a concrete wall on the Northeast Sixth Street entrance to Interstate 405.
When troopers arrived on scene they found a 21-year-old Vancouver man who was seriously injured. Officers then began searching the area for the driver who had left the scene.
As officers were investigating the crash, they received a report that the vehicle had been stolen and went to Rospotnkuk’s house to take a report. Witnesses reported Rospotnkuk as the driver of the vehicle and he was placed under arrest for hit and run, vehicular assault, DUI and false reporting of a crime.
