UPDATE Jan. 9, 5:30 p.m.: The Bellevue Police Department reported Thursday evening that Officer Andrew Hanke has resigned effective immediately.

“As we move forward, my hope is that we rebuild the public’s trust and continue to focus on the great work that the men and women of this department do every day,” Chief Linda Pillo said in the press release.

The internal investigation into Hanke’s alleged DUI is ongoing, occurring concurrently with the criminal investigation of charges filed with the Issaquah Prosecutor’s Office. The department also continues to investigate the actions of Ofc. Doug Brennan during his traffic stop of Hanke.

A Bellevue Police officer on suspension following an alleged November drunk driving incident on I-90 in Issaquah pleaded not guilty Friday morning to a DUI charge in Issaquah Municipal Court.

Andrew Hanke was charged with DUI in early December after a fellow Bellevue officer pulled him over for speeding and swerving on Nov. 20 and let his wife pick him up rather than arrest his 38-year-old coworker.

Bellevue Ofc. Doug Brennan reported the incident to supervisors within the department following the traffic stop and the department states Hanke was placed on paid administrative leave. An internal investigation of Hanke and Brennan’s conduct relating to the traffic stop is ongoing.

Hanke was released following his arraignment Friday morning with several conditions, including a requirement that he install an ignition interlock device in his personal vehicles, which does not allow a driver to start their vehicle if it detects alcohol on their breath, by Jan. 7. His next court date is Feb. 11.
