The Bellevue Police Department is using the power of social media to come up with a new design for the official logo of its’ new bicycle patrol team.

The department will be asking members of the public to submit their designs via the Bellevue Police Department’s Facebook page or on Twitter @bvuepd. Designs may also be submitted to BellevuePD@bellevuewa.gov. The design that is selected as the winner will be sewn into the shoulder patches that are on the bike patrol Officers’ uniforms, and the winner will receive lunch with the bike team and have an opportunity to participate in a bike patrol training

Lieutenant Travess Forbush, the commander of the bike team, said “The Bellevue Police Department has a long history of working with the community to come up with innovative ideas to keep Bellevue safe, so it’s only appropriate that we look to them to help come up with a design that will epitomize the bike patrol team.”

The Bellevue Police Department’s Bike Patrol Team was reinstated in March after a 6 year hiatus. The team consists of four bike patrol Officers and one Corporal. Bike patrol officers are an effective tool for conducting patrols in areas that are not easily accessible by regular patrol officers in a car. These areas include parks, trails, waterfront, wooded areas, in and around special events, and areas with a high volume of foot and vehicular traffic, such as downtown.

Bellevue Chief of Police Steve Mylett reserves the right to approve the final design that is selected. Designs must conform to the below shape, and fit below the “Bellevue Police”
