Bellevue police have busted up a burglary ring that they credit for a recent spike in local break-ins.

Detectives last month arrested three men suspected in a rash of burglaries in the Somerset and Newport Shores neighborhoods. They say the suspects may also be connected to burglaries and trafficking of stolen goods in Kent, Federal Way and Auburn.

Burglaries in Bellevue jumped during the month of April to 39 and then dropped 50 percent following the arrest of the three suspects.

Plain-clothes detectives arrested Aleksandr Borodulin, 19, of Auburn, after following him to one of his break-ins. Police say the man confessed to two other burglaries in the area and informed them of other break-ins that his friends committed.

“Our records indicated a monumental drop in burglaries since the arrest of this one burglar,” said Bellevue Police lieutenant Dan Mathieu.

Police on May 24 arrested one of the suspect’s friends, 24-year-old Sergey Vishnevskiy of Federal Way, for trafficking stolen property.

Officers arrested another Federal Way man, 19-year-old Vitaliy Babets, three days later for burglaries in Newport Shores.

Babets confessed to six break-ins, including four in Bellevue.

Prosecutors have charged Borodulin with four counts of residential burglary and two counts of trafficking stolen property. Vishnevskiy faces two counts of residential burglary and one count of trafficking stolen property, while Babets faces five counts of residential burglary.

Police have returned some of the stolen items to their owners.
