Neighborhoods throughout Bellevue are invited to join forces Tuesday, Aug. 5 with thousands of communities nationwide for the 25th annual “National Night Out” crime and drug prevention event.

In Bellevue, from 4 to 7 p.m., there will be a community party at the Bellevue Police Crossroads station, on the 1200 block of 156th Avenue Northeast. There will be games and prizes for the kids and demonstrations on ways to keep safe for adults.

Entertainment and food will be available for all.

The evening is billed as an opportunity for people to meet local police officers and neighbors as well as to learn about ways to organize neighborhoods to fight crime.

Residents are encouraged to organize block parties in their own neighborhoods, too.

National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, and co-sponsored locally by the Bellevue Police Department, the Crossroads Bellevue mall, Target, Top Foods Grocery Store, Baskin Robbins Ice Cream and Westernco Donuts.

It will involve more than 10,000 communities from all-50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, close to 34 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night out against Crime.”
