The Rotary Club of Bellevue has awarded grants totaling $9,500 to two area not for profit organizations as part of its Community Grants program. The program awards grants of up to $5,000 for capital improvements or projects primarily to not for profit organizations located in East King County. In total, 19 organizations will have been awarded grants of $1,500 to $5,000 in 2009 totaling $50,000.
The Rotary Club of Bellevue awarded $5,000 to Hopelink to replace the carpet in their flagship Bellevue Service Center, which serves over 2,000 clients per month. For 38 years Hopelink has served homeless and low income families, children, seniors and people with disabilities make a lasting change; to move from vulnerability and crisis to independence and stability. Hopelink provides food, housing, family development, adult education, transportation and interpretive services and emergency financial assistance to families in crisis.
The Jubilee REACH Center, which serves the Lake Hills area of Bellevue, was awarded $4,500 to purchase equipment for a “Youth in Theater” program in the “Bellevue Rotary” theater. It is the second grant the Rotary Club of Bellevue has awarded Jubilee REACH Center to promote its on-going mission to provide support and sustain families; build community; and transform lives.
Through the Youth in Theater program, the Jubilee REACH Center in conjunction with Bellevue Youth Theater provides opportunities in the performing arts to Lake Hills area youths. As one of the only free youth performing arts programs in the country, this exceptional program embraces social and cultural diversity while building self-esteem and confidence.
In addition to the grants listed above, the Rotary Club of Bellevue on Feb. 9 awarded $4,000 to Child, a year-round day school for high-needs special education students, to purchase reading and math curriculum. Child has served Puget Sound area students 3 to 17 years of age for over 30 years.
