Bellevue seeking applicants for boards and commissions

With terms expiring in May for members on several boards and commissions, the Bellevue City Council is seeking candidates for the upcoming vacancies. Made up of volunteers, Bellevue’s boards and commissions advise the council on a variety of issues.

Members of these panels, in most cases appointed by the council, serve four-year terms. They attend public meetings at City Hall, usually once or twice a month.

With the exception of the Environmental Services Commission, which draws members from the Bellevue utilities service area, the boards and commissions are comprised of city residents. Residents in newly annexed areas are particularly encouraged to apply. The city of Bellevue values diversity.

Applications for positions on the following boards and commissions are due by 5 p.m., Friday, May 8:

The Arts Commission advises the council on arts activities in the city. Applicants of all backgrounds are welcome to apply, but residents with backgrounds in architecture, landscape architecture and/or the arts are particularly desired. The Arts Commission meets the first Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m.

The Human Services Commission represents the diversity of the community and is responsible for developing issues for the council. The commission meets on the first and third Tuesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

The Parks and Community Services Board advises the council regarding the expansion and operation of the city’s parks and recreation facilities and programs, as well as human services needs and programs. The Parks Board meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 6 p.m.

The Bellevue Regional Library Board serves as an advisory body to the King County Library System. The board meets on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 4 p.m., alternating meetings at the Lake Hills and Bellevue Regional libraries.
