A 21-year-old Bellevue man was among three soldiers killed Thursday in Omar Zai, Afghanistan when enemy forces attacked their vehicle with an improvised explosive device, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.
Spc. Joseph White was home-schooled in Bellevue and took classes at Bellevue College before enlisting in the Army in 2006.
The other soldiers killed were Sgt. Edward B. Smith, 30, of Homestead, Fla., Sgt. Titus R. Reynolds, 23, of Columbus, Ohio.
White married in May, less than two months before leaving for Afghanistan. He went through training at Fort Benning, Ga., and was then stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., where he served as a gunner with the 82nd Airborne Brigade.
White was last stationed at Fort Lewis before being deployed to Afghanistan in July.
