Bellevue stays in high gear for round two of winter storm

People urged to stock up on supplies early in case of power outages

City of Bellevue crews have been working nonstop clearing roads before it begins to snow again.

“Crews have been doing a great job and have been working round the clock. All 14 plows and sanders are in operation, and priority arterials are passable,” said Mike Jackman, Utilities Operations and Maintenance assistant director. “We’re gearing up for more inclement weather and advise citizens to be prepared in case we have power outages. Now is the time to go to the store to stock up on food and other supplies and get emergency kits together. Residents should plan to be ready for wind and snow predicted to arrive at 7 p.m. tonight or sooner.”

All arterials and primary neighborhood routes have been plowed. Over 40 percent of neighborhood streets and side streets have been plowed, and crews will work to get to the rest before severe weather moves in tonight. Drivers should try to follow priority routes, drive cautiously, and use traction devices such as chains, cables or studded tires. Forecasts are calling for another two to four inches or more of snow in Bellevue, with temperatures in the 20’s today and overnight. Weather predictions vary, but Bellevue could get winds of at least 30 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 mph or more.

Utilities employees are preparing to operate water and wastewater pump station on emergency generators so citizens will have water and sewer services in the event of a power outage. Crews are stocking up on sand and de-icer to continue clearing roads.
