Odle Middle School student Olivia Marckx, 13, was announced today as the 2013 winner of the Young Artist Awards for 2013 in the age category 6-13.

Presented by Classical KING FM 98.1 in partnership with the Seattle Chamber Music Society, the KING FM Young Artist Awards supports emerging young musicians in our community.

The competition was in two categories (ages 6-13 and 14-20) and included non-professional acoustic instrumentalists, vocalists, and chamber groups of up to nine people.

Of the eleven finalists selected, both Olivia and Interlake High School’s Mendelssohn Trio were asked to compete in the competition. The trio consisted of Audrey Chen, Darren Leung and Christopher Lu, who played the cello, violin and piano.

As finalists, Interlake Mendelssohn Trio and Olivia performed on May 3 on KING FM’s NW Focus Live program hosted by Sean MacLean in the Classical KING FM studios. The community is able to view these performances online at the KING FM website.

As one of only two winners, Olivia will also perform in a special live broadcast on NW Focus Live May 24 at 8 p.m. on 98.1 FM.
