The City of Bellevue is advising residents to prepare for freezing temperatures. While scattered rain and snow showers are forecast to come to an end later this evening, temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s overnight.

With the wet roadways, many areas may turn to ice. Motorists may encounter difficult driving conditions later tonight and during the Friday morning commute, officials say, advising motorists to watch for black ice.

Over the next several days, temperatures are expected to remain rather cold and dip below freezing at night.

Officials offer the following safety tips:

Call 911 to report life-threatening emergencies.

Call City of Bellevue Utilities 24-hour phone line at 425-452-7840 to report flooding, hazardous road conditions, water main breaks and sewer overflows.

Call Puget Sound Energy at 1-888-225-5773 to report gas leaks, power outages and down power lines.

Do not attempt to drive through standing water. Avoid down power lines.

Never drive past a barricade. If your car stalls in a flooded area, abandon it and walk to higher ground.

Treat dark intersections as four-way stops.

Never use barbecues, hibachis or gas generators inside. Doing so presents a real danger of poisoning from carbon monoxide, a tasteless, odorless gas that can kill.

Have a backpack or duffel bag ready in a closet close to the door in case you need to evacuate. Some items to include are bottled water; a first-aid kit; warm, weather-proof clothing; food; a battery-operated radio and extra batteries; a sleeping bag or blankets; prescription medications; items for your pets.
