Mutile Musee, a nominee of the 2011 Youth of the Year competition among Boys & Girls Clubs across the state, has recognized the Governor’s Community Service Scholarship. Winners must exemplify community service within and outside of their club and demonstrate that they are committed to pursuing professions related to public service.

Mutile is the fourth recipient of the award, which was created under Governor Gregoire as recognition for her public service and her commitment to community service.

Mutile, 17, became a club member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue after moving from Kenya at age 4. She has been involved with club projects such as “Lights on After School,” “Day of Play,” “Academic Olympics,” and other activities to help promote the Club within the community.

She also was elected as president for Bellevue High School’s Student Body Officers, teaches swimming as an instructor, and volunteers for the Strawberry Festival, Bellevue Arts & Crafts Fair, and New Revival Christian Church.

After high school graduation next year, Mutile hopes to attend University of Washington or Johns Hopkins University to become a pre-med student in order to later open her own clinic in Kenya.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Bellevue was established in 1952. The organization has 14 sites throughout the City of Bellevue and serves children 2 ½ – 19 years of age.
