Bellevue will go crazy for berries this weekend as the city’s Strawberry Festival returns to Crossroads Park.
The festival will feature entertainment on the King County Library System Main Stage, strawberry shortcake, historical displays and activities presented by the Eastside Heritage Center, and fresh produce from local farmers.
There will be food for all tastes and over 70 vendor booths, from hand crafts to home improvement. The Family Fun Area will be abuzz all weekend long, with carnival games, inflatable bouncers, face painting, balloons, the Mini-Mountain rock-climbing wall, pedal cars and a big purple slide.
In addition to the BECU Classic Auto Show today, STAR 101.5 will be on site for a kids My ID Card event. And, don’t forget the strawberry shortcake eating contests.
Free parking and shuttle bus every 15 minutes from Kelsey Creek Center (148th Ave & Main St. in Bellevue).
Among the attractions are:
Time capsule: The Eastside Heritage Center’s Mini Museum will provide a traditional canning machine to seal a can of festival-goers personal memories and “artifacts” for years to come. There will also be “my favorite things” forms available for you to fill out and include in your time capsule.
A mini-museum: The Eastside Heritage Center will bring history to festival-goers. There will be a corn-grinding machine, old-fashioned logging equipment, a traditional canning machine, and eye-catching photos of Bellevue’s past.
Historic Agricultural Exhibit: Ever wonder what kind of equipment was used on Eastside farms and in Eastside households in the 1920s and 1930s? Now is your chance to find out.
Strawberry Festival Auto Show: Each year the festival features classic cars on display as one of the key events. This years auto show will be held on Saturday, June 27, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The 2009 Classic Auto Show is sponsored by BECU. The cars will be judged by public ballot for a variety of categories, including Best of Show, Best of Decade, Oldest at Show, Owner’s Choice, Youth’s Choice, Most Stylish Ride, Best Motorcycle, Best Truck and Best Unrestored Original. All participants will receive a dash plaque.
Entertainment: The Strawberry Festival features two stages. One stage is located in the Family Fun area, and includes performers of all ages performing in front of audiences of all ages. The other is geared more toward a variety of music interrupted with the occasional shortcake eating contest.
Family Family Fun Area: The area features carnival games and prizes, face painting, coloring contests, a castle bouncer, clowns, balloons and much more. There also will be a Strawberry Shortcake Eating Contest, peddle cars, a large Purple Family Slide, rock climbing wall and miniature golf.
New This Year will be an Activities Passport. People can pick up a complimentary “Strawberry Shortcake Walk” passport at the ticket booth, answer questions at designated heritage booths and get your passport stamped. When they have all their stamps, they can redeem the passport for a prize.
