The Optimist Club of the Eastside will hold bike safety fairs in Bellevue on Sunday.
The Optimist Club’s fourth annual Bike Safety Fair teaches children the importance of rider safety and provides a fun outing for families.
The safety fair takes place from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at Lake Hills Elementary School, 14310 S.E. 12th St.
The event is for children in kindergarten to fifth grade. Free attractions at the safety fairs will include:
Bike safety: A bicycle obstacle course, bike safety tips, bike and helmet inspections, and bike tune-ups. Children must bring their own bikes to participate in the obstacle course.
Gear and goodies: Free bike helmets for children who don’t already have one – ONLY while supplies last. Also, prizes, crafts, face painting and goodie bags.
PedBee: Bellevue Police officers will be on hand for helmet fittings, a Transportation Department booth will have information on pedestrian safety, and PedBee, the city’s pedestrian safety mascot, will buzz in for the event.
Food Drive: Attendees are encouraged to bring non-perishable food donations, especially items for school-age children, such as peanut butter, jams or jellies, applesauce, canned fruit and 100-percent juices.
