Sammamish’s Anissa Bryant-Swift and Malia Lum proved once again to be the state’s top doubles pair by repeating as state champions last weekend in Vancouver, Wash., at the 3A state tournament.
Bryant-Swift and Lum beat Chelsea Baily and Julia Schubach of rival Mercer Island 6-2, 7-6 (8) in the championship match to retain their title.
The pair had to get past another duo of Islanders in the semifinals. Bryant-Swift and Lum beat Kelly Crandell and Julia Zook 6-2, 6-0.
The Sammamish duo beat Maggie and Molly Henderson of Auburn Mountainview 6-3, 6-1 in the first round before moving on to defeat Anna Nelson and Lauren Redman of Enumclaw 6-1, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (9).
Their first place doubles finish also enabled Sammamish to take home the third place team trophy for the tournament.
Totems boys single player Dragos Puscalau made it to the second round before falling to Alex Wallace of Union 6-3, 6-4. Puscalau lost 6-3, 6-3 to Mitchell Thorp of Kennedy in the consolation quarterfinals. Wallace went on to finish second in the tournament.
Bellevue’s Zach Kosanke and Colin Dresser finished in fourth place in the boys doubles tournament, beating Jacob Yannello and Joel Richardson of Lakes 6-1, 6-3. Kosanke and Dresser lost their quarterfinals match before winning their next three to finish fourth.

Steven Miyauchi and Zach Chen of Newport finished second in the 4A boys doubles state tournament in Kennewick. Miyauchi and Chen beat teams from Kentridge, Bellarmine Prep and Puyallup before losing to Clint Vidano and Jack Rechtin of Wenatchee 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the championship match.
Angela Chen finished third for the Knights in the girls singles tournament, beating Corrinne Wurden of Central Kitsap 6-1, 6-1. Teammate Amie Vo took fourth.
2AInterlake’s Luat Le advanced to the semifinals of the boys 2A singles tournament May 28 at the University of Washington before falling to Riley Newman of South Whidbey 7-5, 6-3.
Le, who had won both of his first matches in straight sets, ended up finished third with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Alejandro Canseco of Deer Park.
Kirk Morrison and Joe Motto dropped their opening match to Derek Young and Nick Van Cleave of Clarkston 5-7, 6-4, (8) before rallying to beat Evan Jones and Kelly Gilchrist of Mark Morris 6-1, 6-0 and Jace Kessler and Shawn Callahan of Clarkston 6-3, 6-2.
Morrison and Motto were knocked out in the next round with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 loss to Myles West and Matt Goebel of Sehome.
Audrey Motto went 1-2 in singles play on the girls side for the Saints. She lost her first match to Maddie Pierce of Bellingham 4-6, 6-3 (5) before rallying to beat Julie Hansen of Black Hills in the consolation bracket. She was knocked out by Elise Rooney of Clarkston in the next round, losing 6-2, 6-3.
The duo of Amy Yasutake and Chelsea Bucklin lost their first match but won their next two to reach the consolation semifinals, where they lost to Emma Anderson and Olivia Koelsch of Tumwater 6-2, 7-6.
