After a hot pursuit by an angry homeowner, a burglary suspect left behind some damning evidence leading to his arrest.

Timothy P. Mader, 28, was arrested Aug. 31 in Everett and charged with first degree burglary thanks to a phone he allegedly left at the scene of the crime.

Bellevue Police responded to a report of a burglary in the 10400 block of Northeast 14th Street in Bellevue on Aug. 25. When they arrived, a homeowner on the scene said he had caught a man burglarizing his home and chased him down the street. The homeowner tackled the suspect, but not before several things had fallen out of his pockets.

The suspect was able to escape before police arrived, but among the stolen property he dropped was a cell phone belonging to an associate of Mader.

Bellevue Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team used that phone to track Mader down and arrest him.

The Special Enforcement Team pursues repeat crimes with a proactive approach, according to a Bellevue Police Department press release. It targets prolific criminals to lower the rate of reported crime by using plainclothes surveillance and coordinated jurisdictional efforts.
