Two businesses were displaced by a fire in a Bellevue office building Tuesday night.
A Bellevue chiropractor called the fire department at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night after smelling an acidic odor coming from a laundry room on the first floor of the two-story office building, located at the 14000 block of Northeast Eighth Street. Bellevue fire officials said the caller smelled paint, and evacuated the building.
When fire crews arrived they found heavy fire on the east side of the building. The fire quickly traveled through the floor joists, up the walls, and into the attic. It took 40 minutes for the firefighters to control the blaze. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The building did not have a sprinkler system and the occupant did not hear a smoke detector on the first or second floor.
Crews will remain on scene through the morning hours putting out hot spots. Bellevue fire investigators will begin their search for an origin and cause in the morning.
