Shorter autumn days mean construction closures on Interstate 90 over Snoqualmie Pass will now begin a half-hour earlier. The Washington State Department of Transportation advises drivers traveling over the pass to plan ahead to avoid the closures or be prepared to wait until the pass reopens.

Beginning Monday, Oct. 1 until Thursday, Oct. 4, the DOT will close Snoqualmie Pass from Hyak (milepost 54) to the Price Creek Sno-Park (milepost 61) daily from 6-7 p.m. Due to the increased fire danger, crews will not be blasting, but plan to use the closure to haul rock from the slopes above the highway. The work must be done during daylight hours for the safety of the crew and drivers in the area.

Drivers may experience some daytime delays Monday through Friday on I-90 between Snoqualmie Pass and Cle Elum as heavy construction equipment will be entering and exiting the highway.

In related news, speed-enforcement cameras continue to monitor speeds through the 5-mile work zone on I-90. Drivers traveling above the posted speed limit of 60 mph could face a $137 fine.
