Church of the Resurrection to celebrate 50th anniversary with community picnic Saturday

Church of the Resurrection, an Episcopal church in Bellevue’s Crossroads neighborhood, is marking its 50th anniversary by inviting the entire community to a free picnic from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, June 27.

The event will feature live multicultural music, food and fun for kids of all ages.

For those who haven’t come to a service at the church and are interested, a liturgical equivalent of a party is taking place at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 28. Everyone in the Lake Hills and Crossroads neighborhoods, and beyond, is invited to both events, a church spokesperson said.

The church also is responding to the neighborhood’s changing demographics and beginning to look at how it can reflect those demographics. The church recently welcomed a team of three ethnically diverse ministers—the Rev. Edie Weller, a white woman priest who serves as rector; the Rev. Carla Robinson, an African-American woman deacon who will become a priest in August; and the Rev. Jerry Shigaki, a Japanese-American priest who also serves as Canon for Multicultural Ministries for the Diocese of Olympia, the Episcopal Church in Western Washington.

“We are eager to share our Episcopal worship,” Weller said. “We invite people of all backgrounds to come meet us, worship with us and join ministries which celebrate the diversity of God’s gifts. Everyone is welcome.”

The church is located at 15520 Main St. More information is available at www.resurrectionbellevue.org.
